The need for high-quality large-scale monolayers of layered materials pushes the development scalable gold-mediated exfoliations. Gold proves to be a suitable adhesive exfoliation several 2D materials. However, extension other noble metals remains underwhelming as gold outperforms all previously studied by large margin. This is attributed compromised stability against oxidation and surface contamination less metals, leading nonideal interfaces exfoliation. closest competitor silver, where still leads factor 100 regarding exfoliated layer size.
